California Pupil Services Coalition

Fact Sheet

The Pupil Services Coalition (PSC) collectively represents over 40,000 pupil service providers throughout California and consists of school nurses, counselors, psychologists, social workers, resource specialists, special education teachers, and speech-language pathologists and audiologists.

This group was first convened in November 2000 to address mutual legislative and regulatory agendas, to understand, collaborate and strengthen the roles of our professional contributions to the academic and personal success of every student.  This group also provides relevant information and data to assist state legislative decision makers.

While it is often difficult for coalitions to maintain momentum, the Pupil Services Coalition has been successful, by giving each coalition member the ability to continue to pursue their individual organizational agendas, while at the same time joining in a collective voice when appropriate on key legislative or regulatory issues.

Pupil Service employees are responsible for delivering education, health, and social services in California’s public schools.  The Pupil Services Coalition believes that the delivery of services related to health, educational, and social services plays a significant role in supporting the academic and personal success of children.

The Pupil Services Coalition works closely with classroom teachers, parents, and students to develop and implement the best educational and health service plans for the California’s most needy students.

The Pupil Services Coalition meets monthly and is comprised of the following 10 organizations:

¨      California Association of School Psychologists (CASP)

¨      California Speech-Language-Hearing Association (CSHA)

¨      California Association of Resource Specialist and Special Education Teachers (CARS)

¨      California School Nurses Organization (CSNO)

¨      California Association of School Counselors (CASC)

¨      California Association for Counseling and Development (CACD)

¨      California School Counselors Association (CSCA)

¨      California Chapter of the National Association of Social Workers (CCNASW)

¨      California Association of Supervisors of Child Welfare & Attendance (CASWA)

¨      California Association of Pupil Personnel Administrators (CAPPA)

Additionally, a representative from the California Advisory Commission on Special Education (ACSE) and the California Teachers Association (CTA) serve as liaisons to the PSC.
