Integrated Strategies for Co-Occurring Disorders
This course provides an overview of co-occurring substance use and other psychiatric disorders, a review of definitions, terms and classification systems for co-occurring disorders, as well as an introduction to an integrated model of treatment and keys to successful programming. DSM-5 diagnostic criteria for Substance Use and Addictive Disorders, as well as other common psychiatric disorders will be reviewed to enhance participants’ differential diagnostic skills. Cross cutting issues typical for this population will be considered. Participants will learn to identify, screen, assess, evaluate, and diagnose co-occurring disorders, as well as develop skills essential to building a therapeutic alliance and provide effective therapeutic strategies for treating this population.
