By the end of this training, participants will be able to: Define the Scope of the Problem and recent trends of AOD use and AOD use disorders; Identify the relationship between level of use and adverse consequences; Describe the process of addiction and the significant roles played by genetic, psychological, and environmental factors in determining an individual’s susceptibility to developing an addiction; Describe the relationship between adverse childhood experiences and the development of risk factors associated with addiction; Identify strategies for screening and assessing alcohol and drug problems using empirically-based approaches; Describe principles of effective treatment and best practice guidelines in determining treatment options; Describe effective case management strategies for working with this problem; Describe the components of the Paradigm Developmental Model of Treatment.
