Greetings social workers,

The American Red Cross has a call out for immediate deployment of Disaster Mental Health workers and additionally it is anticipated that there may be a need for the next several weeks. As you know, this is hurricane season and as a result assistance is required in various Eastern states.

If you are a Red Cross trained Disaster Mental Health worker and available for deployment please contact your local chapter with your availability.  There is a 2 week minimum requirement for DMH (ARC trained Disaster Mental Health workers) and a minimum of a 3 week commitment for shelter operations, client casework, and other activities.

A reminder you must be licensed to be a DMH team member. There are numerous other opportunities for non-licensed workers to have direct client contact such as shelter operations; client casework, etc.

For further information or to ask questions about disaster work, join the NASWCA/ARC members Yahoo! email list at NASWCA_ARC_Members@yahoogroups.com  As we receive further information we will be post it to the list.

If you are interested in becoming a disaster worker, contact the Red Cross Chapter closest to you. Your chapter can be found at www.redcross.org  by entering your zip code in the box near the top of the page.

Thanks for your efforts,

NASWCA/ARC Co-chairs,

Joni Diamond, LCSW and Vicky Powell, LCSW, MPA
